Planning a move after the holidays?
If you are planning on moving but want to wait till after the holidays, there are several things you can do now while you are waiting. No doubt, moving is alot of work! From deciding on where you want to live, to reviewing your current home for damages, repairs or needed updates before putting your home on the market. All while trying to get through your holiday cheer! This can create a complete overload of stress and anxiety. My number one recommendation is to contact your realtor first. Let them know what you are planning and give them a timeline of events. Set up a time for your Realtor to do a walk through of your home. Create a checklist of items that need to be repaired, organized/decluttered and staged for when you are ready to list your home. Alot of sellers make the mistake of waiting to start this process till after the holidays. Waiting prolongs the timeline of when you will be able to sell your home. By starting the process during the holidays you can work on your checklist early and you will be able to have your house up for sale at the beginning of the new year. Downsizing- Part 1
Are you currently thinking about downsizing your home and life? I would imagine that if you live in a large home or have lived there for a long time, you probably own alot of stuff! So, the question is....how much will need to let go of in order to make this move and begin a new journey in your life? This will be different for everyone, so there is no one answer to this question. BUT, you can make this happen by planning and thinking through all that you own. The first thing would be to figure out where you will move to. Know what your current square footage of your home is. This will be important! As you are looking for a new home pay attention to what the square footages are. Also, very important is shop around and look at the homes you are interested in. Just looking at pictures will not tell you how the smaller home feels and if you will be able to function in the home. Another thing to consider is maintainace of the home. Will you be able to mow your own lawn, shovel the snow, take care of weeds? If something breaks in the home, will you be able to fix it and most importantly will you be able to know if something breaks in your home? Having a plan of attack and knowing how you will maintain will be critical. Deciding if you will be the one maintaining, or if you will hire someone to take care of all of the outdoor maintainace and any inside repairs. So much goes into making the decision to move and where to move to. Having an expert help guide you through this process can make this experience less overwhelming. A great Realtor and a Professional Organizer can be your best defense and will guide you in the right direction. Stay tuned for part 2 of Downsizing! Steps To A Successful Move
Planning a move can often feel like a whirlwind of tasks and emotions. A successful transition, however, calls for systematic planning, timely packing, and a little bit of decluttering. Whether you're a buyer stepping into your dream home or a seller moving on to new adventures, these steps can streamline your process and alleviate some of the common stresses associated with moving.**Plan Ahead**Preparation is key to a successful move. For buyers, this means getting your finances in order, closing on time, and ensuring that all paperwork is signed, sealed, and delivered. Sellers, on the other hand, should focus on finding the right moving services and scheduling them well in advance. Creating a detailed moving checklist and timeline can help you stay organized. From hiring movers to notifying utility companies of your move date, planning ahead can save you from last-minute headaches.**Pack Timely**Packing is one area where procrastination can really bite you. As soon as the deal is finalized, buyers and sellers alike should start packing. By beginning early, you can methodically organize your belongings, label boxes properly, and segregate items that you'll need immediately after moving. It's a good idea to pack room by room and leave essentials for last. This timely system shuts down the last-minute rush and ensures you don't forget or misplace anything important.**Donate Unneeded Stuff**Every household has its share of items that are no longer needed. Before you start packing, take the time to sift through your belongings. Items that haven't been used in the past year, clothes that no longer fit, or furniture that won't match your new home's decor can be donated. Local charities, shelters, and second-hand stores are often in need of gently-used goods. Donating not only lightens your load but also brings joy to others.**Measure Before Moving Big Furniture**A critical yet often overlooked step is measuring your big furniture. Make sure your new home can accommodate your larger pieces before you even begin the move. Taking measurements of doorways, stairwells, and room dimensions can prevent any unwelcome surprises on moving day. This step is particularly crucial for buyers intending to bring their favorite couches, beds, or tables into their new space. These steps—planning ahead, packing timely, donating unneeded stuff, and measuring big furniture—are essential components for a smooth and successful move. With some forethought and organization, you can turn what might seem like a daunting task into an exciting new beginning. Whether you’re a buyer ready to make new memories or a seller moving on to fresh opportunities, following these guidelines will help you transition with ease.
